Hunger Relief
The Zambian hunger index is "alarming." according to the 2013 Global Hunger Index (source). Many people in our community survive on less than $5 a day and struggle to provide enough food for their families. In some cases, the adult family members are too ill to even seek employment or to farm their land. As short-term aid (when funding allows) HHY provides emergency food assistance to those most vulnerable to starvation. These meals are comprised of mealie meal (ground maize), cooking oil, and relish (beans/fish).
Our aid is focused on the elderly and those with life-threatening illnesses, like HIV/AIDS. Although we are thankful to be a resource for our community, we also encourage community members to proactively support one another’s needs.
HHY is poised to provide relief to
community members facing extreme hunger.
Mary's Story
Mary, a mother of three children in our community, is suffering from HIV/AIDS. Victor met Mary after visiting and counseling a neighboring family. She shared that she had no food for herself or her children. This was especially dangerous because Mary is sick and taking medication that must be taken with food. As a result, the medication had not been working effectively.
HHY now provides ongoing, emergency food support for this family, and Mary is is managing her illness.
Together, we can save lives and restore hope.
Your gift of $24 provides one month of
emergency food relief for one person.
