Orphan Care
Zambia is one of the African countries hardest hit by HIV/AIDS—home to 48% of the children who have been orphaned by the disease. (source) Orphaned children are left to fend for themselves on the street and face the daily reality of hunger, disease, and abduction.
Caring for the orphaned and abandoned children in our community has always been at the heart of our story. But our goal is not just to give them a shelter. We are committed to raising them in a loving home environment, helping them discover their identity and purpose in Christ, and equipping them to grow up and make a difference in their community—not repeating the cycle of poverty.
HHY meets the physical, emotional, & spiritual needs of
orphaned children, caring for them as our own.
The children supported by HHY have diverse backgrounds but all share one thing in common: they come from a place with no hope for tomorrow. Some were homeless street children, depending on begging and stealing for day-to-day survival. Others were under the care of a relative, but the care was negligent. Many had only one meager meal to eat each day.
Today, these same children claim a hope-filled tomorrow and know that the Creator God has a purpose for their lives. Their sense of desperation is being replaced by dreams of the future. When asked what they would like to be doing when they finish school, they are ready with a reply of nurse, teacher, mechanic, attorney, accountant, and a variety of other viable careers.
Your partnership through sponsorship is key to allowing each of our children to flourish into his or her purpose. Take the first step.
Mwape's Story
Mwape was abandoned at a young age by his parents. He lived with his grandmother and his aunt, who was married to a witch doctor. Though he was provided basic shelter and food, he was kept from school and expected to labor to "earn his keep." Victor met Mwape at Teen Missions International while running a boot camp near Mwape's home. Mwape expressed to Victor his desire to attend school and make a better life for himself than the one he seemed destined for. Mwape was invited to live at HHY in 2012.
Through the physical, emotional, and spiritual care he received in his new "family," Mwape began to thrive. He has since graduated high school and has chosen to serve by working for HHY at the ministry farm. He is quiet, gentle, and always ready to lend a hand. Mwape is no longer a statistic and embraces his identity as a child of God.
